Nancy Gallagher
Nancy Gallagher has been a member of the Greater Trenton Symphony since 1986, when she was still a student at Trenton State College. Also that year she was elected to "Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities" for outstanding merit and achievement. After receiver her BA in Music Education from Trenton State College, Nancy began her career teaching music while maintaining an active role as a freelance performer. She has taught fifth grade instrumental music in the Hillsborough School District since 1991. In 1997, she was a clinician for the New Jersey Music Educators Association conference and spoke on "Maintaining a Performance Career as a Public School Educator." In 2001, she was awarded the prestigious N.J. Governor's Teacher Recognition Award of Excellence in Teaching. Several years ago, Nancy founded the "Grand Staff Music Ensemble," a wind ensemble made up of Hillsborough faculty and administration. This ensemble performs two concerts per year and donates the proceeds from the concerts to a graduating Hillsborough High School senior planning to continue his or her music education at the college level. Her other engagements include the Delaware Valley Philharmonic, the Boheme Opera Company of New Jersey, the Newtown Chamber Orchestra, the Trenton Brass Quintet Plus One, the Garden State Concert Band and the Orchestra of St. Peter's By the Sea under the direction of Father Alphonse Stephenson. When not performing she loves spending time with her family and friends particularly her little god-daughter and niece, Cassie.
